HOLDEN CHARTERS

SOUTHPORT NORTH CAROLINA

2008 Charter Fishing Reports

12/03/08

Had a great crew today James and Brad Cain, Mr. E, and Tommy Brown and we went bottom bouncin. A little chilly to star off with but wound up being a awesome day on the water. The ocean was flat.

Caught a couple of boxes of the usual bottom dwellers, all good quality fish and a few Decent Groupers. Didn't try any King Mackerel because the water was to cold where we were fishing.

Happy Holidays to all and Catch Em Up. Wink

10/15/08

Had a great charter group today, Frank, Bob, Jason and Gary.

They lit up all the usual the bottom fish, Grouper, B-Liners, Pinkies, Black Bass (They were real good fall ones)

Bottom fished for half the day and trolled the other half, King Bite was steady near the Tower and got 1 decent Cobia. Big Ol AJs under the boat all day also.

Fun day on the water.

08/15/08

Had a great group from Bolton NC fish with me today, Weather and Seas were perfect. Bottom bite was awesome today as they caught limits of about everything. Red and Scamp Grouper were also chewing. Ended the day fighting some Big AJs. Iceing on the cake for already sore arms.

If you guys get the chance be safe and Go Gettum Um. Wink

08/10/08

Me and (Big E) Fished with Capt Joe (Rough and Ready) back in December and he gave me one of his old Skamp Ledge Number from when he Commericial Fished around here.

Finally got the chance to fish the number today and it was a SMOKER. We got 9 Keeper Skamps, 1 Red in a row then started pulling up a few under size fish, so we pulled off of them and started trolling. Its was a sporadic bite but we managed 5 Mahi and had a big box full of assorted bottom fish.

Thanks for the number Joe Wink

08/09/08

Had a great group from Hartsville SC - Bob, Jim and Barty
Fished topwater right at the Tower and Bottom Fished East of the Tower.

Caught some nice Kings when the sharks didn't devour them before we could get them to the boat. We caught some good assorted bottom fish and some really nice Red Grouper. Didn't have the camera so no pics for that trip.

07/26/08

Took a good group out today about 42 miles for a fun run.

The calmest I have seen the ocean all year by far. Caught some Kings, Mahi, Cobia on the Mean Green Pirate Plugs, and a few Bottom Fish. The Porpoises were putting on a great Sea World Like Show most of the day also.

Water was crystal clear and calm, got tons of great pictures of the fish in the water deep.

Probably a little to calm as the bite was sporadic but all in all a great day on the pond.

07/22/08

Had a very cool charter group today, Justin, Lil Jackson, and James Mutch.

We caught a net full of nice pogies a little offshore of the Light House off Oak Island and headed to Old Faithful (Tower)

The King Bite was steady today at the Tower, when you could fish through the Cuda's and Jack's. Finally had to ditch the livies and start fishing dead bait with the Mean Greens to catch some Kings.

The Bottom Bite a little further offshore was hot and cold throughout the day in the bumpy conditions. Had a assortment of bottom dwellers but no Grouper. The dreaded sharks are back in full force right now also. The wind did finally lay out late in the afternoon and gave us a good ride in

Got reminded of why we do this crazy game again today as I watched the little guy roll in his first King Mackerel. The expressions on their faces tell the story. This lil guy is a natural fisherman and hung in there all day in some hot conditions.

I think we got another one hooked Wink

07/04/08

Got a permission slip from the Wife and Kids to miss the Southport 4th of July Parade, Just had to be back Home in time to see the Fireworks.

Called up couple of buddies and pulled a trip together at the last minute.

Lucked out and saw birds diving off Oak Island a little off-shore of the Hot Hole. We got on em quick and RAC filled up the net in a throw. We really were not expecting to even see any as bumpy as it was. SW Wind was kicking but thankfully it laid out Off-Shore.

Started right at the Tower this morning and picked up a couple of very nice Mahi in the 12-15 range right out the gate and then picked at the King Mackerel for a couple of hours. Glad we had the live pogies today cause they were what the fish were hitting the hardest. Will start looking a little harder for them for future Charter Trips.

Hit a couple of numbers on the bottom and picked up a nice assortment of bottom fish (Jumbo Pinkies and Triggers), then moved off another 10 miles and finished up the day on some very nice Red Grouper. Again the live pogies were the ticket for them also. Choppy ride home but another Great Summer Day with Friends on the pond.

06/25/08

Had to wait out the weather the first of the last week but finally got a break and took at great group from Chicago out last Wednesday and was greeted by perfect seas, currents and a strong bite.

We started out on the Top Water near the Tower and got into a excellent King Macks bite. The bigger predator's (Sharks and Cudas) were getting a fair share of free meals also. But we finally got away from most of them and put some whole fish in the boat.

Did not catch any Mahi as the water was still pretty dirty from the storms.

After we got close to a limit of Kings we got them rigged up and hit a SW number and loaded up on all the good eating bottom creatures (Assorted Bottom). got into the big ol pancake size Trigger Fish 2 at a time pretty good.

Jigged up a little live bait and finished up the day in a little deeper water and got on a excellent Red and Skamp Grouper bite. Very good trip for Customers and Crew.

Sore Shoulders and Big Smiles. Wish you were here Wink

06/19/08

Had a good crew on board today for a 1/2 day trip, and they wanted to catch some King Mackerel. Matt and Grant (Identical Twins) and their Dad and Grandad.

We searched Oak Island for bait, and it was hard to come by. Finally threw in the towel and headed off-shore with the dead stuff.

We ran about 16 miles off to some live bottom put out the lines and got a nice King pretty quick, then the bite completely shut down for about 2 1/2 hours. But we rigged up some bottom gear and caught some decent Black Sea Bass during the lull.

Finally about 11:30 the King Bite turned back on and we had a little free for all the last hour. All decent fish mid teenagers.

The bite is good right now and I think there are some big fish around but I got a feeling the Bait will be tough for the Jolly Mon Tournament this weekend.

06/15/08

Had a good group of guys fishing with me today, Brad / James Cain, Todd and Andy.

It was a little bumpy and we had to run around the weather a little starting out but it all ended up good. Caught the first American Red Snapper on the Boat for 2008.

Had lots of assorted bottom dwellers (All quality stuff) but could not buy a grouper bite today. Know we were in good rocky bottom because we pulled out another Moray EEl.

Didnt really fish for the Top Water stuff very hard but did try to keep a lite line out as much as possible. The lite line saw very little action today - 1 Amaco Jack, 1 Bailer Mahi, couple of short strikes.

Great day on the water with good people.

06/14/08

Had a great local family that chartered the boat on Saturday, Paul, Ms. Drop, Shelly and Amber.

The weather was beautiful and the seas were flat calm.

We went to the Tower and got thick into the bailer Mahi, a few snake Kings then headed east and loaded up lots of good Bottom Fish.

All in all it was a great day and it's always cool when you have a family on board cheering for each other.

06/08/08

Took the QCI admin Girls (Chrissy, Stephanie, Kat) and their friends (Dan, Chad) out on a Charter Trip Today.

The Seas were decent and so was the bite. They started out with some bailer Mahi on the Top Water while we were rigging them up to Bottom Fish. A couple went down very early to the ever dreaded Sea Sickness.

But I had 2 girls that worked very hard and saved the day for the group,
they did very well catching about 150# of assorted bottom, couple of Mahi, Strawberry Grouper, Big Red Grouper, AJs, and some Jumbo Sharks that were released.

All in all another Fun Day on the water.

06/06/08

Bottom Fished today with a couple of good friends Ed Shaw and Tommy Brown. Left Carolina Beach Inlet about 6:30 and arrived at our spot at 9:00 am.

The Red Grouper were chewing, Ed caught us about 4 dozen pin fish the night before and the Grouper were addicted to them today. We had our limit by 11:00 am and decided to troll for some Mahi. We had a few small schools of P-Nuts come up around the boat while we were bottom fishing.

They were a little finicky today and played hard to get but we managed to get 4 very nice fish before heading back in. We tried every color in the rainbow and different lures but all 4 fish came off OLD TRUSTY. (Mean Green Pirate Plug) Wink

But I have got to admit (Them pink one are sure pretty to look at in the Tackle Drawer) Laughing Laughing Laughing

05/31/08

Had a great group of guys fishing with me today, Brian and Dustin Willetts, Ricky Madej, and Tommy Brown.

Started out a little bumpy and got worse as the day went along. We managed to pull out a couple boxes of Bottom Fish, 1 King, 1 Mahi, Big Sharks, and some Grouper.

A rough day of fishing beats a good day at work, except the ride home is a hell of alot different. Laughing All in all another great trip. Wink

05/27/08

Went back today for another trip with my Brother Heath Holden, Tacoma Bob Hawkins, and James Cain. Weather was pretty good and the seas were decent. Loaded up on plenty of Bottom Fish, Grouper, Kings and 1 small Mahi. Hopefully the inshore Mahi are on the way.

05/26/08

Finally got out on a good weather day for a change and had some fun.
Had my Brother Heath Holden his Father in law Bob Hawkins, James Cain, Tommy and TJ Brown.

We caught some Kings on the lite line, Skamps, Red Groupers, and a couple of boxes of BIG assorted bottom.

The highlight of the day (Fire Drill) - we had a triple header going on the Cobia at one time, Landed two of them and one broke the rig at the hook. The two we landed were pretty good ones in the low 50s and the one the broke off was approx. the same size.

Kinda cool, I have caught them bottom fishing before but never 3 at one time. Also saw a huge Sailfish crashing baits pretty good ways from the boat.

Spring has sprung as the ocean was alive and well this day. We all are wore out and happy about it.

Go Getum Boyz Cool

4/27/08

Had a great crew today for my pick-up trip.

James cain, Sargent James Iverson, Barnacle Bill, and Brad Cain - all FPT Members.

Seas were a little bumpy but very fishable, King bite was pretty good on the lite line, caught some Red Grouper, Skamps, AJs, and all the usual Bottom Stuff. Everybody got a few for the freezer.

It's guys like these that remind me why I love this game so much, it was a relaxing laid back trip with very good people and the bite was steady.

James Cain and Mr. Bill are retired Military and James Iverson is a active Staff Sargent - We all had some very cool conversations about politics and America in general throughout the day.

If you like being free and able to do the many things we have privilege's for - Please take the time to Thank the Veterans, and the Young Men and Women of our Troops.

03/13/08

Me and (RAC) Took Jim and Alan Grizzard from off the site on a Charter Today. The seas were perfect, but the bite started very slow and the sharks were THICK.

Finally around luch time it started happening and we caught some fish, Kings, Red Grouper, and assorted Bottom. Just had to fish through the sharks to finally get some good fish.

The Grizzards were great guys to have on the water, thank you for the business.

01/05/08

Took Richard (RAC) Clark, James (imaheelsfan) Woody, Lil Jerry Clark, and Mr. Bill bottom Fishing in some awesome seas today. Cold ride out but turned out beautiful off-shore.

The Bottom Bite was non-stop pretty much all day.

We kept a lite line out but didnt even have a strike.

We caught a load of The Usual Bottom Suspects, very nice size and plenty of them. We completely filled the Icey-Tek Coffin.

The Grouper bite was kinda slow ( I think because the Tide and Current was so slack) but we did manage to get a few good ones. Tomorrow and Monday are suppose to be mirror images of Today.

If you get out be safe and Go Gettum Boyz.
